Spotlight on: Dan Renshaw

I’m a Reading boy (almost) born and bred. Moved from London when I was a kid, did my BA at the University of Reading, now doing my PhD here.

I’m particularly interested in immigration history, in particular the Irish and Jewish communities in East London in the late Victorian and Edwardian period, and how immigrant communities interact with each other and the wider society. My family background is from East London, so I have always been interested in that part of the world.

Within the Department, I am a sessional teacher at level one and level three. Doing a part one Approaches to History course focusing on People of the Abyss by Jack London, and jointly taking on with Jason Parry at part three level the ‘Extremism in Britain’ module.

Outside History, I enjoy listening to punk and reggae music, 1930s horror movies, and playing pool (badly).
