Christmas 2015: A Pre-Modern Christmas
This year the Department of History’s seasonal theme is ‘A Pre-Modern Christmas’.
The halls have been deced in the department and we have a caption competition for our students running at the moment. The competiton is based on Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s ‘Hunters in the Snow’ (1565) which is on show in the history corridor. Students are being asked to suggest what they think the figures could be saying by adding their comments to the speech bubble.
Prof. Matthew Worley, Student Rep. Sean Atkinson, and Dr Jacqui Turner busy decorating last Friday.
Here on the blog we will also be celebrating our festive theme with a series of blog posts from our medievalists and early-modernists. Our posts will begin this Friday (11th) and will run up to Christmas, so be sure to follow us here or on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to make sure you don’t miss out!
Our caption competition painting, Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s ‘Hunters in the Snow’ – to join in the fun add your suggested comments to the reproduction in the department (and remember ot add your student number to be in with a chance to win a prize!)
